1. Soccer. I'm athletic. I enjoy playing whichever sport there is, because I enjoy active fun. However, soccer is the ONE sport that I disliked the most. The sport that I have no clue how to play, and probably don't have any talent to play. Yet, being here in Mexico for 8 months, I've noticed a sudden interest in the sport. Soccer is HUGE here -- like high school football in West Texas -- and just by watching so many games (on TV and in real life), I've really grown an interest in the game. Don't a favorite team, yet...
2. Salsa on everything. I've found myself enjoying the spicy taste on almost everything -- pizza, popcorn, fruit, snow cones, tacos, burritos, chicken, steak, etc, etc. To me -- it almost doesn't have taste if there isn't any salsa on it. :)
3. Lack of television. I used to watch television non-stop back in the States, but since being here, the amount of time I spend in front of the tube has dropped significantly. If I am in front of a TV... it's to watch a movie. So let's say I average about 10 hours of TV time a week... compared to the probably 100 hours I had back home in America. Proud of myself.
4. Spanish music. You know the typical music you hear on the radio stations back home in America?? Yeah, I've really come to enjoy those songs. There are a lot of them that tell some pretty funny stories. Now that it's easier for me to understand them, I enjoy turning on the radio.
5. MSN chatting. I haven't had a hotmail account since middle school/early high school, but all the kids here have chat names, and so I've really come to enjoy taking a few hours in the day to chat with these kids. I say kids -- but they have come to be some of my greatest friends here in Mexico. :)
**on a side note-- I've never been more sick of beans and eggs and tortillas. Not complaining... but, if I could choose to ever eat those again, I would.**
Check back here in a few days as I'll be writing a little more about the work going on right now in Piedras. Miss you all!
Be Strong in the Lord,
Rachel
