You know the drawer I'm talking about. The one with random things you have or find around your house that have no specific place. You open the drawer and find things like rubber bands (the used and worn ones only), a few keys that have no specific lock or a lock with lost keys, and a soda pop top that reads, "free 20 oz. Drink." The other day, I thought about all the things that I'll never get to share with others. They don't have a specific reason to be told or are exciting enough to bring up conversation, so they get thrown in my "junk drawer" and never get told. I decided that maybe at the end of each month I'd share with you a few of these "junk drawer" moments- hoping that they give a little insight into my daily life here.
1. I have a gigantic sweet tooth. Dulce, Dulce, Dulce! The sweets (Dulces) here are just fabulous. My favorite so far has been the little white round candy called Marzi•Pan. Is it cake icing? Yes! Do I fall into heaven everytime I eat one? Yes! Please, when I come visit you or when you come visit me, be sure to have one!
2. Movies in Spanish are just as good as movies in English. Same for music. 99.9 FM!
3. School for the girls starts at 7 and ends at 12:30. Must be nice! I told them about typical US school hours and they just couldn't believe it!
4. Mexicans are romantics. Not a week has gone by when I'm not asked why I don't have a boyfriend. Also, every mother I've met with a son between the ages of 19 & 25 makes sure to introduce me to him - in the "my son is handsome isn't he?" sort of way!
5. Cool weather is good for two reasons: a.) I can roll my windows down and not be hot. b.) sweaters
6. I really am starting to enjoy having salsa or chile with everything I eat. It's almost bland if I don't have it. Oh and I also saw someone eating watermelon with chile after church on Sunday.
7. Dear car,
I'm sorry that I seem to always forget about the speed bumps on every street. I'll try and remember next time. Love, Rachel
Dios te bendiga!
Be strong in the Lord,
Rachel
